Children often don’t have the words to express how separation or family breakdown affects them. Instead, their emotions show up in behaviour, mood changes, or withdrawal.

Common signs children may be struggling:

  • Increased anxiety or clinginess

  • Emotional outbursts or shutdown

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Regression or school challenges

Supporting children starts with supporting yourself. A regulated parent creates emotional safety for their child.

Coaching with children in mind helps parents:

  • Understand emotional responses

  • Communicate in age-appropriate ways

  • Create predictability and safety

  • Reduce long-term emotional impact

Children don’t need perfect parents — they need emotionally present ones.
